NFL Lockout To End?

Today I saw the following on my twitter, “per ESPN’s John Clayton Judge Boylan cancelled next week’s mediation because both sides are engaged in confidential settlement talks.”

I am a little torn as to how to read into this. At first I think it says a lot that the judge canceled his mediation meeting, eluding to real progress being made in these talks. I think the smartest decision the two sides made was not inviting lawyers to this meeting. Lawyers can be very helpful but in this situation I think they prohibit the sides from agreeing to a new CBA deal.

I have always felt from day one that the two sides would get a new deal done, but when was always a question in my mind that I couldn’t answer. I believe the players weren’t in too much of a rush to get into full go mini camps and OTA’s, which could have prolonged a deal from getting done a long time ago.

If the two sides come to an agreement from this secret meeting then I will be pleasantly proven wrong after thinking that the owners were just out to get richer. Only time will tell if this situation will be resolved, but it is odd that a secret meeting is held during a dead time in the negotiations.

Free Speech Abuse

Rashard Mendenhall can have all the opinions he wants and he has the right to voice those opinions. However, an educated man should know when to shut his mouth about certain things. When it comes to voicing your opinion, which is the minority opinion, about the single largest attack on American soil you should just shut your mouth especially when you are a public figure. I don’t care how he feels about the treatment of Bin Laden, the fact is that man tortured, killed and scared our country in one of the most horrific events in history. Just because you have the right to free speech doesn’t mean you have to voice every opinion. it will be interesting to see if the NFL attempts to suspend or/& fine him when the lockout lifts.

P.S. Remember this is the same man that make derogative tweets about women.

Dallas Cowboys Draft

With less than 8 hrs to go my excitement grows as to what may happen during tonight’s NFL Draft. Being a huge Cowboys fan I am excited and anxious as to what is going to happen to tonight with our 9th overall pick. It seems that if we could attempt to package picks to trade up to get Patrick Peterso , CB out of LSU, who would help us out immediately. Then, I had read columnists state the Cowboys need to take a LT with the ninth overall pick, but my problem with that is that I don’t see any that warrant a pick that high. Mcshay and Kiper suggest DL with that pick, my opinion is that they draft the best athlete/player available on the board. Keep in mind that we still have free agency yet to come and I would rather sign a veteran OL than draft a rookie lineman and not be able to coach him for weeks due to the lockout. This years draft is going to test those who make the big bucks on just how good they are at their job. If executed properly the Cowboys should be able to draft for talent and sign FA for need, thus getting more immediate and consistent contributions out of their draft classes.
